Spend less Goal for June

June 1st, 2006 at 06:40 pm

My goal for June is to not buy anything from a vending machine. No soda, no chips. In May I bought one bottle of coke and four bags of chips. I have been drinking water and take homemade snacks. If I get hungry I will make a pack of ramen noodles that I have in my desk instead of buying chips. The chips are Herr's salt and pepper variety and they are very good. But they are not as cheap as the ramen noodles, so no more chips.

Can you make your own potato chips and bring them to work? You can google "how to make potato chips" for some good recipes that look pretty simple (potato, hot oil, salt). My latest vice is a Baskin Robbins Blast which I absolutely love, however they are $4 for like an 18 ounce size. For $5 I can get a half gallon of milk and a quart of Starbucks coffee ice cream and make basically the same drink for about 40 cents each instead of $4! Good luck!

We do make our own ice cream, yogurt, cinnamon rolls, etc. But I have not found any homemade chips that I find really good.
